  • PROSPECTIVE AND TRANSFER STUDENTS. If you are seeking admission for a degree, you must complete the application process by the published deadline. Visit the Prospective Student website for more information about the University of Utah or the Admissions Office website for more details about the admission process. Admissions application deadlines are as follows:
  • Fall SemesterApril 1
    Spring SemesterNovember 1
    Summer Term March 15
  • UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS. If you remain in good standing and in compliance with University regulations, you remain eligible to register for a period of one calendar year from the term of your last enrollment. If you do not register during the year, a readmission application and fee must be submitted to the Admissions Office by the deadline, to regain eligibility. If you have attended another institution during your period of absence, submit the applicable transcripts for credit evaluation and admission determination. If you have been suspended or placed on academic probation, obtain your clearance to register from the University College. If you reside outside of Utah for more than twelve continuous months you may be asked to provide documentation of your residency status. Contact the Admissions Office for any additional questions, 581-7281.
  • Notice: If you are an undergraduate student who must leave the University to participate in an "official assignment," (government service, church service, etc.) you may have your eligibility extended to two years by submitting a copy of your official letter of assignment to the Admissions Office before leaving the University.
  • GRADUATE STUDENTS. You are required to maintain continuous registration at the University. If you fail to register for a term (excluding summer) you are ineligible to register for future terms and must seek readmission through The Graduate School.
Graduate students who wish to discontinue their studies for one or more semesters (other than summer term) must file a Request for Leave of Absence form with the chair of their supervisory committee. Before being forwarded to the Graduate Records Office for approval of the dean of The Graduate School, the form must be approved by the supervisory committee chair and department chair. For more information, see the
    Graduate School website.
  • HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. High school students interested in taking credit or noncredit courses through the University of Utah must be admitted to the High School University Program. This program enables highly able and strongly motivated students to apply for enrollment in regular University courses while completing their high school studies. Grades earned at the end of the term become part of the student's official transcript. Applications and information for the High School University Program are included in the brochure, Pre-College Academic Programs for High School Students. These are available at high school counseling offices, and the Office of Student Recruitment and High School Services, 80 Olpin Union Building, (801) 581-8761, or 1-800-685-8856.
