Search by Name (Students & Employees)
In order to perform a name search, you must enter at least four letters of the last name, or at least two letters of the last name plus one letter of the first name. To achieve the best results, enter as much of the name as you know, especially the last name. The more specific your search criteria, the shorter the response time will be, because the system has to find and return fewer matches.

Searches are not case sensitive, so smith=Smith.

Example: If you are searching for Jane Smith, you can enter smith as the last name. You can also enter smit as the last name, or you may enter j as the first name, and sm as the last name. This final technique is most useful if you are not sure how to spell one of the names.

Please Note: Currently the campus directory contains only active employees and students. If you are looking for a Retiree, try checking the website of the Department in which the person worked or taught. If the person is not listed, a phone call or email to the department to inquire may also help you.

Search by Email Address (Students & Employees)
Enter at least two letters of the email user's name as it likely appears in the email address. You do not need to enter a host name (the portion of the address following the "@" sign). Any capitalization or punctuation you enter will be ignored.

Hint-- Most email addresses on campus are in one of two formats:

  • flastname where "f" is the initial of the first name (e.g. jdoe@m.cc.utah.edu)
  • firstname.lastname where the first and last names are separated by a period (e.g. john.doe@m.cc.utah.edu).
Keeping these formats in mind, you could search for John Doe by entering jdoe or john.doe

Search by Phone Number (Employees only)
Enter the complete work phone number. If more than one person share a number, you will see a list of all people assigned to that number.

  Search by Department (Employees only)
Enter the full or partial name of a department to see a list of all employees in that department. To make the search as fast and efficient as possible, you should enter as many letters as you can--at least two letters. The search string does not have to be the first few letters of the department. For example, entering com will return departments like:
  • Academic Computing
  • Admin Computing
  • Bennion Community Center
  • Adv Combustion Engin Res Ctr

  Search Results
The system will attempt to return all entries that match your search criteria. If the entry you're looking for does not appear in the results list, press the Back button on your browser and refine your search. Again, to speed up the search, you should use the most narrow search criteria possible.

Results are listed as follows: name, phone number, and department. Note the last column is not the employee's job title, rather the department name.
