Step 1 - Initial One-time Configuration of the Central Directory Service
-Select Services from the Tools menu
-Click on the Add button under the Services tab
-Highlight "Microsoft LDAP Directory" and click OK
-Fill in the following fields under the General tab
Directory Service Account: {enter directory name of your choice} U of U/University of Utah/Central Directory Service, etc.
Server Hostname: ldap.acs.utah.edu
Server Port Number: 389 (default)
Search Base: o=utah.edu (the letter o, not zero)
Please note, the Central Directory server does not require a user name or password. These fields should be left blank.
-Click OK
-The following message will appear, "The service you have just added will not start until you choose Exit and Log Off on the File menu, and then restart Microsoft Outlook." Click OK.
-Exit Outlook by selecting Exit & Log Off from the File Menu.
Congratulations! You are now ready to move on to Step 2 and access the Central Directory Service.
Step 2 - Conduct a Search using the Central Directory Service
Option 1:
-Re-open Outlook
-From the Outlook Inbox, click on the New (New Mail Message) icon
-Enter the name of the individual to search. The entry may be a partial first and/or last name, or a full first and/or last name. The names are not case sensitive.
-Tab out of the "To" field. A red squiggly line will appear under the entered text.
-Go back to the "To" field and double click on the text, then right click to view all the matches
-Left click on the name to insert the name in the new e-mail message
Option 2:
-Enter the name of the individual in the search field next to the address book icon on the menu bar. Press Enter.
-Double click on the name to view the details of the search
Option 3:
-Click on the address book icon
-Select the "LDAP directory on acs.utah.edu" from the "Show names from the" drop down menu
-Click on the Find Items (address book w/magnifying glass) icon
-Enter desired name and Enter
-To narrow the search, enter the first name of the individual in the "Type name or select from list" field. For example, if you entered Johnson and the individual's first name is Madam, enter "Ma" to go directly to all first names beginning with an "Ma."
-Double click on the name to view the details of the search
-To send an e-mail message from this window, highlight the name and click on the New Message (envelope) icon
