1025  History and Evolution of Dance on Film (3) Fulfills Fine Arts Exploration.
   This course provides an overview of the relationship between dance and film beginning with silent film to the present. The course delineates the role and influence of dance in traditional cinema and further investigates genres of performance art film and contemporary dance film. The focus on this element of film aims to deepen appreciation and understanding of dance as a significant cinematic reflection of art and culture that historically and currently continues to influence emerging forms or media art.

   This course offers extended studies in basic elements of dance composition and improvisation with a focus on dance in relationship to other art forms. Emphasis is placed on building both a verbal and movement vocabulary that embraces all of the arts.

   This course continues exploration of choreography and the creative process. Students expand their understanding of dance composition, identify individual areas of artistic interest, and increase ability to take artistic risks inside of dance making.

   The course will provide instruction in West African dance forms. The course will explore West African traditional culture through dance, drumming, and song.

   This course provides basic understanding and experience with rhythmic forms and analysis in relation to dance. The course also emphasizes the practical use of percussion as accompaniment for dance.

3009  Demystifying Contemporary Dance-What the heck does it all mean? (3) Cross listed as UGS 3009. Fulfills Fine Arts Exploration.
   This course provides the exposure, skills and language with which to interact with dance, and make sense of it as a physical and intellectual art form. The course offers an in-depth look at the process of making dance, giving a peek to what happens behind the curtain. It also gives in-depth look at the dance being created today, the ideas it explores, and the ways in which it relates to real life. The course includes viewing dance live and on video, guest lectures by professionals from the field, and directed movement experiences. Dance training not required.

   This course familiarizes elementary education majors with effective method for integrating dance into the elementary school curriculum. Students will design and implement dance lessons for elementary age students that promote creative exploration and discovery Heavy emphasis is placed on application of the creative process.
