The undergraduate Asian Studies Program requires a double major in Asian Studies and some other field, typically Chinese, Japanese, history, political science, economics, finance, or management, although any second major is acceptable. A bulletin on the program and a list of classes (the University's regular Class Schedule does not contain cross-listings for Asian studies) are available in the Department of History, 219 Carlson Hall. A minor in Asian studies requires a minimum of 15 semester hours, of which 9 semester hours must be in courses other than a language. Contact the program director for further information on the Asian Studies Program and to enroll as a major.

The general Asian studies degree guidelines are as follows:

1. Three years of an Asian language (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or instructor's consent).
2. At least five semester-long courses concerning Asia from any department offering Asia-related courses: anthropology, architecture, art, art history, comparative literature, economics, geography, history, languages and literature, linguistics, philosophy, political science, management, finance, sociology and theater arts. No more than two of these courses may be taken from any single department, except the senior seminar (see below).
3. The two-semester Asian Civilizations sequence (HIST or UGS 1210 and 1220, or its Social Science version).
4. A senior seminar in some aspect of Asian Studies. These are courses at the 4000-level or above in which a substantial research paper is written or project prepared.

Program Requirements. Asian Studies students are governed by the University’s graduation requirements.
