Undergraduate Program in Architecture

A single curriculum is offered at the undergraduate level which is structured as a preprofessional program in architecture. The curriculum provides the undergraduate education required for admission to the school's master of architecture program. Many other areas of graduate education or career opportunities are available using the B.S. in architectural studies as an undergraduate degree.

Graduate Program in Architecture

Two graduate programs are offered by the Graduate School of Architecture. The Master of Architecture is accredited as a professional program in architecture by the National Architectural Accrediting Board, a designation required by the state of Utah and most other states for licensure as a registered architect. A post-professional program (advanced study beyond the professional degree) is also offered as a Master of Science in architectural studies.  Both programs offer professional training in their respective disciplines as well as active programs of research and public service activities.

Undergraduate Program in Urban Planning

Planning is a profession dedicated to helping society manage change. Urban planners assist in understanding and solving problems related to preservation and enhancement of community life, the protection of the environment, the promotion of equitable economic opportunity, and the management of urban growth and change. The Urban Planning major is an interdiscplinary program under the direction of a departmental committee.

Special Activities and Facilities

The Center for Architectural Studies provides special opportunities for research, professional development, and community service in architecture and allied disciplines. ASSIST, an affiliated community design center, provides design and planning assistance to Utah communities and nonprofit organizations. Independently funded or endowed programs of exhibitions and lectures by internationally noted professionals are available to the entire community. The school's Western Regional Architecture Program provides the country's most active research program relating to the architectural heritage of the western United States.

The school's excellent facilities include a large exhibition hall; extensive slide, video and digitized media collections; wood and metal shop; and photographic studio. All design studios are fully networked, providing extensive peripherals for student platforms. Two computer labs house networked workstations and PCs and provide access to the University's supercomputer and campuswide computer network. Ongoing research in computer visualization in conjunction with the Kajima Corporation of Japan provides additional excellent computing facilities and research expertise.
