Posted April 9, 2001

Adviser. For advising assistance, please call the Department of Languages and Literature at 581-7561.

The Department of Languages and Literature offers a major and a minor in Chinese for students wishing to gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture through the study of the Chinese language, literature, arts, and society. The Chinese major also provides the necessary background for graduate study.

All courses counting toward the major or the minor must be completed with a grade of C or better. Check with the department to see if a transcript is needed. If a course that is a requirement for the major is not available, the department reserves the right to substitute another course to fulfill that requirement.

Major. The major consists of 31 upper-division credit hours. Students who learned the language through residence in a Chinese-speaking country may not take any course numbered below 3060.

Minor. The minor consists of 15 upper-division credit hours. Students who learned the language through residence in a Chinese speaking country may not take any course numbered below 3060.
