Comparative literature is the study of literary works in a broader context than that afforded by the study of the literature of a single national tradition. It includes cross-cultural study of genre, period, and theme relationships among literary works and among literature and other historic and artistic disciplines and the investigation of common sources and influences. The interdisciplinary program involves courses from the departments of languages and literature, English, theatre, and selected courses in Honors, undergraduate studies, and humanities. All courses are taught in English, but occasionally a class requires the student to read works in another language, in which case that language may be a prerequisite.

Prerequisite. Students must complete WRTG 2010 or the equivalent before taking any comparative literature course.
