B.F.A. in theatre, B.A. in theatre studies. Emphasis areas for the B.F.A. in theatre are actor training, production stage management, design for the performing arts (PADP), and theatre education. All students are required to take the following core courses: THEAT 1550, 1580, 1590, 1120 or 1220 (ATP), 1160, 1170, 3720, 3730, 3880. All course requirements for the major must be completed with a grade of C or better. Teaching Certification. Please refer to Education in the Colleges section for information on teaching major course requirements and state secondary teacher certification. Arts Technology Certification Program. See Fine Arts elsewhere in this section of the catalog. Actor Training Program (ATP)—B.F.A. This degree program offers intensive training in preparation for a professional acting career. Auditions are required for acceptance and yearly evaluations are required to continue in the program. Theatre Department Core Requirements (ATP)

Singing Requirement -- two years of singing is required in the curriculum. Students are encouraged upon advisement to study with a private teacher beyond the program requirements. ATP Requirements: 51 credit hours Department Core Requirements: 27 credit hours

Stage Management—B.F.A. This preprofessional program prepares the student for either intensive training at the graduate level or for beginning a career in the performing arts. Theatre Department Core Requirements
Stage Management Program Requirements
Stage management majors must PSM Lab and Babcock shows at 1-3 credit hrs. each, and/or (ASM Pioneer Theatre show subject to instructor approval. Another project may be substituted). Electives must include MUSIC 1550 Elements of Music (3) For Upper Division, suggest THEAT 3210 Tai Chi Yoga/Movement (3 credit hrs. repeatable 4 times). One class per year. (Total 12 cr hrs.) Possible 4-6 credits earned while ASM at PTC - w/ instructor approval. Note: Students are accepted into the stage management emphasis with the approval of the head of the program. Continuance in the program is based on a yearly evaluation of the student's progress. Theatre Core Requirements: 27 hrs.
Theatre Studies—B.A. Theatre Department Core Requirements

*Any majors acting class will fill this requirement, including THEAT 1120, 1130, or Professional ATP acting classes. Student files are kept in the Theatre Department office in 206 Performing Arts Building. Students are responsible for starting their files and keeping their files current by supplying DARS reports; transcripts; grade changes; name, phone, or address changes; etc. Graduate Program Degrees. M.F.A., Ph.D. in theatre. For additional information, see the Graduate Information section of this catalog. Areas of Specialization. M.F.A.: Directing; theatre education. Adviser. Graduate academic adviser: Alexander Gelman. Special Admission Requirements. M.F.A.: M.F.A. directing applicants must participate in an interview with members of the faculty. Check with department office for application deadline. Special Degree Requirements. M.F.A.: Five to six creative projects, depending upon the area of specialization, 52 hours for the theatre specialization, written evaluations of creative projects, a written comprehensive examination and a final oral examination are required. |
