Taught as Writing Emphasis. For explanation, see Writing
Program in the Courses section of this catalog. A study of contemporary
drama written by African-Americans. Authors such as James Baldwin, Lorraine
Hansberry, Leroi Jones, and others explore various American institutions
(church, marriage, home, school, and job) from an African-American perspective.
Students experience both product and process through reading and discussing
finest African- American theatre.

The class consists of lectures and discussions centered on the study of
a particular single script.
6200 Directing Verse Drama (3)
Offers directors the opportunity to analyze and prepare
verse scenes, to work with actors on those scenes, and to work with the
instructor on directing a workshop production of a play in verse.
