SOCIAL SCIENCE TEACHING MAJOR
I. Core Requirements Choose three departments from the six listed: Anthropology, Economics, Geography, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. One social science teaching methods course is required. It may be taken in any one of the three disciplines selected for the composite major, but may not count toward the 13-hour minimum in that discipline. The history teaching minor and secondary education classes are required. ANTHR 1101 Culture and the Human Experience 3 Choose one: ANTHR 1201, 1301 Choose at least one geographic area course: ANTHR 3111, 3112, 3121, 3131, 3132, 3151, 3152, 3211, 3311, 4184 Choose at least one topical course: ANTHR 4161, 4171, 4181, 4183, 4186, 4192, 4193, 4261, 4291, 4341, 4461 ECON 2010 Principles of Microeconomics 3 ECON 2020 Principles of Macroeconomics 3 Choose three courses: ECON 3100, 3200, 3500, 3540, 3370 GEOGR 1400 Human Geography 3 GEOGR 1600 World Regional Geography 3 Choose two regional courses: GEOGR 3600, 3620, 3630, 3640, 3650, 3670 It is recommended that you take GEOGR 1200 3 POL S 1100 U.S. National Government 3 POL S 5100 Advanced American National Government 3 Choose one: POL S 2200, 2100, 3030 Choose an additional three credit hours from 3000-level or above PSYCH 1010 General Psychology 4 The student must also choose at least one course in each of any three of the five major areas: A. Secondary Teacher Certification Methods Course ED ST 5180 Secondary Methods Social Studies 3 OR GEOGR 5700 Teaching Methods in Geography 3 II. Certification Course Work Students must complete pre-cohort and cohort education course work listed under Secondary Education in the Graduate School of Education section.
